From Waste to Beauty

We believe products should be manufactured with integrity,  designed for function, and, most importantly, bring people joy.

Our goods are designed to look beautiful, work great and be as sustainable as possible.

We consider it an honor to be able to give a second life to discarded fabrics that would otherwise be considered “waste,” and turn them into everyday essentials that people love to use.

Circular Design

Nature’s process is circular. Everything transforms into something else in a continuous cycle of zero waste.
Our aim is to get as close to that cycle as possible.

Our own waste is turned into compost, which is used by neighboring coffee growers to grow some of the most
delicious Arabica beans in the world.

2017

Meema is Born

Meema is founded in Guatemala by Alejandro Torun, Jason Turton, and Daniel Buchbinder, three friends looking to create amazing products made by The New Denim Project using discarded denim waste from textile factories. Our first product was a set of kitchen towels, which still is one of our customers' favorite Meema products.

2020

Meema Begins to Grow

After three years of steady growth in the US, we expand to Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, as well as into hundreds of independent shops, restaurants and cafés. While the pandemic shakes peoples' lives, and hardship hits millions of people around the world, we continue to innovate with materials and fabrics, and accompany our customers in their homes and kitchens.

2022

Certified B Corporation

Meema is a certified B Corporation, a great milestone for us, joining thousands of incredible companies from all over the world, meeting the standards of social and environmental impact.

2024

New Colors & Certified GRS

We launched our new collection filled with colors, made with 50% recycled cotton waste and 50% natural cotton, and achieved the Global Recycled Standard certification. This not only expanded our line of products to more options that our customers love, but also validates our efforts in converting textile waste into beautiful new yarns, fabrics and products.
